For this first exercise we had one piece of 4x4 cardboard and out of that cardboard we had to make a chair that we can sit on. The restraints are, we have to use all of the cardboard and we can cut the cardboard but you cannot cut it off. The key to making this chair work is starting with a paper model that is strong enough to hold an object, and then you have to transfer it to the cardboard. The problem with transferring the model to the cardboard is that it does not bend and fold the way that the paper does. Then there is also the problem of making it sit-able, just because the support worked on the model it doesn’t mean that the cardboard is going to hold up a whole person. Overall it was all about structure and not as much about style.
